When turning a slender shaft, the causes of deformation and vibration are:

(1) The workpiece is subjected to bending deformation due to the thermal elongation of the cutting.

(2) The workpiece is bent and vibrated under the action of cutting force.

(3) Vibration caused by the weight and deformation of the workpiece.

(4) The workpiece exacerbates bending and vibration under the action of centrifugal force.

The solutions adopted are:

(1) using a center frame;

(2) using the tool holder;

(3) reduce thermal deformation;

(4) Reasonable selection of the geometry and cutting amount of the turning tool.
